The easy comparison — the lazy journalist’s comparison — for Darquan would be to Ludacris. Or maybe Devin The Dude. They're all Southern, they all know their way around a punchline, and they all have a knack for big hooks … but those comparisons fall a little flat. Where Ludacris is a little wacky and Devin's a little nutty, Darquan is straight-up un-motherfucking-hinged. So unhinged, in fact, that all of the promo videos for his latest album Crazee feature straight-jacketed therapy sessions. And frankly, Darquan's teetering-on-the-brink-of-the-loony-bin is a welcome relief from so much of the mean-mugging, humorless local rap that comes across our transom. Definitely check “Darquan's Corner,” his regular video series shot in a corner next to what looks like a clothes dryer; it features one of the best damn theme songs ever committed to flash video.
